I was born in
Bromley, Kent in 1975 and from a young age had a fascination with drawing.
Some of my earliest memories are of drawing although my talents
then amassed to little more than stick men. I was quite an introverted
child and I can't say that growing up in the suburbs of London was terribly
interesting but the result was to throw me deeper into the realms of my
imagination.
It was during these formative years that I developed a love of the fantasy genre. I would spend hours pouring over the black white illustratons found in the pages of Fighting Fantasy books, novels like The Lord of the Rings and tabletop roleplaying games. These remain a perennial love.
In 1993 I
entered Croydon College studying a Foundation in Art and Design, and a year later I
left my home town to study at the University of Portsmouth. After
graduating in 1997 I decided to stay on in Portsmouth but also hang up my
brushes for a while, painting only occasionally.
In
2002 my love for painting was rekindled and I have been producing work
consistently since then. I don't like to classify my work but both my figurative
and abstract work do share a stylistic commonality. It is true to say that my
work is influenced as much by what I read as it is by other
artists.
As an Artist, it is my desire to reflect and express. Sometimes the expression will come directly from my own experiences and feelings, sometimes as a reaction or reflection to world in which I live, and sometimes from the depths of my imagination. It is not a choice; art is part of me, but I would not have it any other way.
I hope that you find my work as stimulating and enjoyable as I did creating it.
